At Murphy Orthodontics, we are passionate about helping patients of all ages achieve the smile they’ve always wanted. There is no age limit on having a happy and healthy smile, and more adults than ever are seeking orthodontic care because of the lasting impact it can have on their lives. Braces have been the most popular treatment for generations because of their ability to efficiently correct issues big and small and help patients get a smile they’re proud to see in the mirror.

Why You May Need Orthodontic Treatment

Many adults seek corrective treatment because they didn’t receive treatment when they were younger, had an accident after treatment, their smile has changed over the years, and more. But, no matter why you decide to pursue treatment, we want you to know our team is passionate about helping adults in New Orleans get the care they deserve.

When you receive orthodontic treatment, you take the first step to improved health, aesthetics, and self-confidence. Braces are famous for straightening out teeth and delivering beautiful smiles that last. While having a stunning smile has an impact on your appearance, we’ve also seen that its effects run deeper than the surface level. When you’re proud of your smile, you feel more confident in your daily life. Dr. Murphy often talks about how the orthodontic treatment he received years ago helped him become who he is today and filled him with a passion for helping people achieve the same great results.

Beyond improved aesthetics, braces can help you get better oral health and overall health. For example, many people don’t realize that when your teeth are overcrowded or your jaw is misaligned, there is stress on areas that aren’t meant to handle the pressure. These issues can impact the way you speak, bite, chew, and more. If left unattended, this could cause extreme pain and discomfort. Additionally, it’s much easier to clean teeth in the correct position, so you are less likely to deal with problems such as rotting, decay, and tooth loss if you wear braces.

Treatment Options

Our practice wants to provide patients with the most advanced technology and techniques available so they benefit from the best the field has to offer. We’ve earned the trust of our community because of our commitment to adopting improved appliances such as our version of traditional metal braces. Metal braces are a longtime patient favorite for a good reason. This appliance has proven time and time again it’s highly effective in treating almost all orthodontic issues. We place metal brackets on each of your teeth and thread them together using a wire for this treatment. What makes our appliance stand out is using NiTi wires, heat-activated wires that move over time, so you only have to come in once every eight weeks. We understand that you have a busy schedule between work and getting your child to soccer practice and need to

be in the chair as little as possible. While we love seeing our patients, we’ve seen how helpful these cutting-edge wires have been in their treatment progress.

If you want the reliably stunning results of braces but need an appliance that’s a little more discreet, clear braces may be the perfect option for you. Our clear braces use tooth-colored ceramic brackets instead of metal ones so your appliance blends into the natural beauty of your smile. Many of our adult patients appreciate this option and are excited about the beautiful results they’ve achieved after wearing them. However, when deciding which appliance is right for you, it’s important to note that ceramic brackets are slightly less durable than metal brackets and might be more prone to breakage.

How Long Does It Take to Get Straight Teeth?

Every smile has unique needs, and every person has unique goals for treatment, so the treatment timeline varies a little from patient to patient. If you have more extensive orthodontic needs and goals, it may take longer for us to perfect your smile with braces. While it’s always different, most of our patients wear their appliances for around one to two years. We encourage you to schedule a complimentary consultation with our office so Dr. Murphy can give you more insight into what treatment would look like for you.

How to Take Care of Your Braces?

Taking care of your braces is simple, but it can take some time to get used to cleaning around your braces. You should continue brushing twice a day and flossing often, and we suggest you take a few extra minutes and pay attention to the hard-to-reach areas. This way, no food debris or harmful bacteria will sit on your teeth and lead to issues such as tooth decay or even loss.

How Much Do Braces Cost?

The cost of braces varies depending on how long you spend on treatment and the extent of your orthodontic issues. However, we are constantly striving to make better smiles accessible for our New Orleans community, so we’ve created several flexible financing plans to help you easily budget for this great investment. We also work with most insurance providers so we can limit your out-of-pocket expenses.
